Video: Representative Schaefer Talks Budget Cuts

SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) – And while federal law makers were arguing over cuts, local state representative Matt Schaefer was in town talking to East Texans about budget cuts and how it could affect them.

Schaefer made several appearances today, we caught up with him at the Blue Store in Noonday, where people were asking about what happens next.

Schaefer says the state is trying to soften the blow, especially in education.

“Schools are funded by a mix of sources. They’re funded by local, state and federal money and so there’s always political debate on how to spend that money. My focus in Austin is to spend that money more wisely, more efficiently,” says Rep. Schaefer.

Other big questions for the representative today came from cuts to medicare spending.
